High Seas Desire review by Jennifer Begley

They “wind toward their happily-ever-after through completely unforeseen plot twists and surrounded by a cast of vivid characters including an amorous cousin, a helpful all knowing aunt, a dastardly scoundrel and a rival for Lissa’s affections. Mlyn Hurn has given as a fun novel full of everything one expects in erotic romance. High Seas Desire is a return to the classic bodice ripper of days gone by with a modern edge of sensuality that is sure to titillate.”

Lissa is a lovely, headstrong lady who is returning from England to the island in the Caribbean where she grew up and where her father is Governor. On the way there the ship she is on is attacked and her cousin, her maid and she are taken as prisoners on a pirate’s boat. Before capture, Lissa’s cousin makes the maid and Lissa trade clothes so Lissa will not be harmed, but this poses a problem when the Captain decides to take Lissa as his own and suddenly realizes who she is.

Black Jack the notorious pirate is actually Lord John Fitzpatrick and heir to a dukedom, but he is bored with life in England so he has taken to the seas as one of the Caribbean’s most infamous pirates. However, John had courted Lissa briefly in England so he is astounded to see the maid he has taken captive is actually Lissa. To save her from his men, he makes sure they understand she is his and she begins to stay in his cabin. The passion builds and the romance starts out at sea, and it is steamy. The story continues after Lissa is returned and John and her travel back to England. From there the story twists and turns through their relationship and throughout England.

This is a wonderful book – the characters are very real and well-developed. I fell in love with Lissa and John and also several of the supporting characters. The story moves quickly and just when you think you can predict what will happen next, it takes a wonderful turn. There is plenty of action, love scenes and endearing moments as these two lovers struggle to find their place in England and with each other. The sea setting and the various English settings come to life and I felt I was there in each place with the characters. The descriptions are very vivid without being too wordy.

I definitely recommend this book to everyone – the love scenes are rather steamy but not too over the top. The love story is amazing and the plot moves so fast that you don’t want to stop reading. Ms. Hurn
has a definite winner here.
